Born in Hokkaido, on October 3 1985, Shokichi’s school days were dedicated to baseball. But, then, he quitted to reach another goal: becoming singer, even though his parents were against it. Before joining EXILE, SHOKICHI formed vocal group called “Jack Pot”. He also joint R & B singer group, “Symphony”.
He’s the oldest of 3 brothers. His 2-years younger brother, Yagi Masayasu, joins the same agency (LDH) as Gekidan EXILE.
He tried his luck on “EXILE VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2006 ~ASIAN DREAM~”, however he failed. After that, he also failed at COLOR audition. Then, he decided to attend the EXPG dance academy. In December 2006, he met EXILE’s TETSUYA. On EXILE TAMASHII, TETSUYA said he was impressed by SHOKICHI back then, by saying, “Wow, Yagi kun ii nee”.
This finally leads him to join Nidaime J Soul Brothers on January 25 2007. This second generation lasts in 2 years: 2007-2009.
On March 1 2009, SHOKICHI subscribes as part of EXILE. Along with NESMITH, he becomes new vocal and performer for the group. Even so, the main vocalists are still TAKAHIRO and ATSUSHI.
In 2012, he debuts in new group called The SECOND from EXILE. He’s also part of EXILE group.
For the first time after 7 years, Shokichi takes part in liveaction dorama called Sugarless (2012). Along with fellow LDH’s talent, he portrays delinquent.
He’s deep and strong reach voice. He’s also very kind. In April 21 2012 Yomiuri Online reports that SHOKICHI assists a 87 year old dementia guy to find his home from Shibuya. He was using his real name instead of EXILE’s SHOKICHI, but the man’s son recognizes him and reported it to the newspaper. Awwww.
I think he’s an awkward type of guy who can’t speak well in crowd. As I saw him on Ex-Lounge, he’s not a natural womanizer like TAKAHIRO. Fan says he’s kinda hot-blooded. There’s also wildness aura coming from him. So, if I may conclude, he’s like tame Richard Parker. What do you think?
